Gypsy Moth

The Gypsy Moths are coming!  I live in Saylorsburg, PA and we have an infestation here.  I'm trying to help us all out.  If we all chip in, this will help!

Here is an inexpensive Do-It-Yourself way to make a barrier band for trees.  Wrap the trunk in duct tape - shiny side outward, sticky side toward the tree about chest height.  Maybe two times around yielding a 4 inch wide strip.  Then smear on petroleum jelly using a disposable plastic butter knife.  This should be 2 inches wide, about 1/8 thick, and more toward the top of the band to allow for drip down.

Thats it!

Here is where the info came from:

Make sure to check the bands every couple days to make sure the petroleum jelly is not dripping down onto the bark.  you can clean this up with a paper towel if it does start to drip.  Also make sure that the barrier band is not clogged with insects.

Good luck this season!
